Busted Radiator Ends Top 5 Run in Independence Classic..

After being postponed by rain, the 1st Annual Independence Classic was run this past Friday at Clary's Speedway. Kent qualified poorly but rallied to finish second in the 1st consolation race. That effort put Kent starting 17th in the 25 car field. The $20,000 top prize drew cars such as Rick Eckert, Scott Blomquist, and Earl Pearson. Once the green flag fell, Kent drove from 17th to 6th position in the first 15 laps before a flat rear tire forced him to the back. After a restart, Kent quickly drove back to the front. While racing Earl Pearson Jr. for 7th, Pearson spun in turn 4 and Kent had nowhere to go but into him. Kent suffered a busted radiator along with other heavy damage and was unable to finish. Kent surely had a top 5 car until the mishap. Kent was credited with 15th place. Ricky Ellliott won, folllowed by Eckert, Love, Jarvis, and Pettijohn. Bloomquist, Pearson, and Bare all failed to finish.
